Customer Meter Technician

Cleveland Utilities Authority, a municipal utility providing electric, water, wastewater and fiber 
services to the Cleveland, Tennessee/Bradley County area, is seeking a Customer Meter Technician. 
This position will be responsible for installation, connection, disconnection, reading and 
inspection of utility meters for residential and commercial customers.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
•  Meter Installation and Connection: install and connect utility meters for new service customers, 
ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Conduct inspections of facilities prior to 
connection to ensure safety and readiness for service.
•  Meter Disconnection: carry out disconnections for utility meters for non-payment or at customer 
requests, ensuring proper communication with customers regarding service status. Document all 
disconnects in compliance with company procedures.
•  Meter Reading: accurately read and record consumption data from utility meters in a timely 
manner, ensuring data integrity for billing processes. Utilize mobile applications to input meter 
reading data and resolve any discrepancies promptly.
•  Meter Inspection and Maintenance: inspect meters for functionality, safety issues, and 
compliance of regulatory standards. Identify any potential problems or damage, and coordinate 
repairs or replacements when necessary.
•  Customer Interaction: provide excellent customer service, answering questions and addressing 
concerns related to utility services, meter readings, and disconnections.
•  Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of all meter installations, readings, inspections, and 
disconnection activities.
•  Safety and Compliance: adhere to all safety protocols while performing duties in the field. 
Participate in ongoing training to stay current on industry standards, new technologies, and safety 
practices.
•  Other duties as directed by the Supervisor/Manager.
 
PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS:
•  High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED): Required Associate degree (two-year 
college or technical school): Preferred
•  Previous experience in utility services, meter reading, or similar fieldwork is highly 
desirable.
•  Valid driver’s license.
 
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
•  Physical stamina to lift equipment and access remote locations.
•  Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
