Engineering Technician I - Electric
                                                                                       
Cleveland Utilities Authority, a municipal utility providing electric, water, wastewater and fiber services to the Cleveland, Tennessee/Bradley County area, is seeking an Engineering Technician responsible for preparation of plans and specifications for providing electrical service/parking lot lighting to residential and commercial customers, obtain accurate field locations of electrical facilities through GPS technology and verify mapping data for accuracy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Obtain field GPS coordinates utilizing field GPS rover.
  • Prepare data and record necessary field information to import into GIS system for future locating requirements.
  • Obtain field information for populating GIS database system including poles, transformers, streetlights, SCBT poles, SCBT attachments, Charter attachments, span lengths, wire sizing, phasing, switch information, customer meter information, and other data as required.
  • Study new load and determine the service size, secondary size, transformer size. pole size, voltage drop, and other pertinent data.
  • Prepare a work order sketch for construction showing all installation information using standard symbols, all removal information using standard symbols, a minimum of one existing transformer station number, identity of all known roads and streets, accurate distances as measured. Work orders are to be drawn using standard symbology established by the department.
  • Select proper type work order, assign and record work order to access database, record map number for posting, issue transformer orders when required, issue all necessary materials and work order face for proper flow. Work orders should be neat and arranged in a conventional order established by the department.
  • Prepare all work orders in full accordance with TVPPA Guide to Transmission and Distribution, Standards, and Specifications, National Electrical Safety Code and the National Electric Code.
  • Process service orders for replacing overloaded transformers, services removed by the Operations department.
  • Coordinate new service work with ATT, CATV, water, sewer, and gas services.
  • Have a full understanding of GIS systems. Should be able to extract drawing sections for work order creation and editing.
  • A full understanding of levels, symbology, and data structure should be grasped.
  • Any other assignments may be designated by the manager of engineering.

PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED): Required. Associate's degree (two-year college or technical school) Preferred, Field of Study: Engineering, Drafting or related field.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office, CAD and knowledge of GPS and GIS systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of reading and understanding blueprints, sketches, etc. preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license.
